Well, it’s been 2 days since we arrived back into NYC and I still have jet lag! Hopefully I’ll be back to normal by tomorrow; I had no clue the kind of effect it has on you.
So far my response, when asked about Uganda, is simply that I have experienced so much mentally and emotionally that I cannot even process it at this point. I think that it will take time to explain in words...

We're back!!!
I think I speak on behalf of the entire team when I say it was truly an amazing and life changing trip. I know all of us are still processing what exactly it means for each of us: how we are going to be different, what God is asking from us, how we spend our time and resources, and so on…
I am confident that pictures and maybe even a few video are forthcoming. We would love to share our...

Chapatti Roll Eggs and Priceless Moments
African tea, red plum jam and chapatti roll with egg for breakfast. (Video will be updated when I’m at the Amsterdam airport) I held a chicken yesterday and dug out some weeds around a sweet potato plant and picked some eggplants. Seeing the villages where the kids come from and watching them do their daily routine puts a lot of things in perspective. (Lots of pictures to follow). I am...

Hello everyone!
This will most likely be my last post as we are leaving for a Safari tomorrow and will be without internet access for the remainder of the trip.
The last 2 days we have been traveling around Uganda in a bus with some of the L.E.A.D. Uganda children. We visited some of their huts in the villages and saw how they really live while they are not in school. It was eye-opening to...
Returning to Kampala
We have just returned from a village near Entebe where some of the newest children in the program have come from. We were able to see the abject poverty from which they came. Parents are desperate to help their children, but they have no options for paying school fees. They are so grateful that LEAD Uganda has stepped in to fill in the gap. We were greeted with a tribal song and dance and a...

Here I am again, in the middle of Africa, on the internet….technology is amazing. Yesterday we went to a Ugandan church and it reminded me that every Sunday morning, all over the world, people are singing the same praise songs and worshiping the same God…it was awesome.
Today was a fantastic day of seminars. My morning began with breakfast at the hotel sipping the most incredible...
Seminar Day #2
As I type, the Forefront team is leading three different seminars, each with a different age group. The young kids are with Brian, Angela, Vicki and Erin learning about wise decision making and goal setting. Considering I can hear the screaming and singing and laughing from here, it seems that they have done a good job making it age appropriate. The middle kids are engaging in the arts as a...

So much we take for granted about 730 pm on day three here. I am overwhelmed by the poverty and lack of simple things here. These kids have next to nothing but what they do have they are so grateful for. Every time we come or go its...
Trekking On: Wonders never cease →
I can’t believe, this is only the end of day 2! I feel like I’ve been here for weeks!! The students here are simply amazing. The hugs, smiles, holding hands has been refreshing. So many wonderful personalities here. Being here makes me realize how little interactions I have with children back…
A day and a half
A day and a half in and I’ve managed to laugh hysterically, cry uncontrollably, witness a suckling family of pigs, break my sandals from dancing too much along with my belt (trying to uncap a bottle of the local soda called Mirinda) and getting to know more and more about these incredible children. What an incredible day full of unexpected turns and twists! The rapport with the kids...
A lot can happen in three days, especially in...
It’s very hard to believe that we’ve only been in Kampala 3 days. So much has happened.
It has been a joy to meet all of the children and their caretakers. We were all given such warm welcomes that it was like coming home to family. The hugs are endless, helping to fuel our tired bodies.
Yesterday, we were able to hear about all the accomplishments LEAD Uganda has made in the past...
Loving Uganda: The Pearl of Africa! by Sarah Sykes
I wish there were adequate words and images we could share with our readers that could depict how full our hearts are after our first full day in Uganda with the students and staff of LEAD Uganda. We were warmly welcomed late on Thursday night at the airport by an entourage of kids and staff. They hugged us and greeted us with their beautiful smiles. We made the hour and a half drive to the LEAD...

So I finally got to get online today. The flights here went very smoothly and there were no delays and we had fairly good weather. The first flight was 6 hours and the second was 7.5 hours. I only slept for an hour the entire trip, so needless to say, I am seriously jet lagged. We’re eating great African food, though, and I honestly think that the kids are giving the energy that I need...
Amsterdam
Good morning everyone! Dawn here!
So we’ve safely arrived in Amsterdam. It is 2:34am back in the states, but a great sunny morning here! Started my morning off with some Starbucks, ya ya….I know. Can’t get away from the stuff! The trip over here was pretty amazing. KLM is a pretty great airline. Every seat had a tv, we received 2 meals, a snack and free earbuds. It was just what...
On the plane!!!
We all made it on safely… A little rushed but otherwise smooth sailing.
Next stop: amsterdam
At 7:50 pm (local time) we will land in Entebbe, Uganda.
We’re all so excited. Please keep us in your prayers.

In just 7 hours our plane will be taking off from JFK and heading for Uganda. For as long as I can remember, this is a journey I have wanted to take. I have read countless articles and books about East Africa. My heart has felt a tugging and a longing to go, but today I feel my feet dragging a bit. Educating myself through documentaries and books is one thing. To come face to face with the pain...
Almost Time
Marc here! First I want to thank everyone who partnered with me. I would name you all but I am afraid I would forget one or two of you.
I have to admit I am not sure what I should be writing about now because I have no idea what to expect…. I will say this. I am extremely excited and will be keeping in touch as much as I can over the next two weeks.
till next time

Well, it’s official. In exactly 1 week I’ll be in Uganda. It seemed like such a long way away when I first started praying about this opportunity, but as usual, time flies. For those of you who really know me, you know I am a work-a-holic. I have been working 2 jobs here in NYC for quite some time and I barely have time to breathe, let alone take time to reflect and prepare for this...
marivicGirl in Uganda
UGANDA. I never thought I would add this destination on my WORLD TRAVEL bucket list until a week ago when I received my VISA. Upon taking a brisk walk after my cousin Kathryn’s rehearsal dinner last night I realized something; the most memorable travels are ones that had a unique purpose. Sure, I love a little down time just like any other person but this is definitely greater than just ...

Woooo Hoooo!
….I finally got to the internet cafe. Apologies for the disappearance for a week, it’s been pretty much go go go the second we got to JFK.
So since I only have a total of 16minutes and 25 secs on my computer I’ll have to pick out some highlights of the trip so far.
After a total of 14 hours of flying, 3 hours of layover in Amsterdam, 3 mini bottles of complimentary wine, and...
Seminars
Today was our second full day of seminars. The way we have it structured is such that there are three groups of students who rotate through the seminars, staying with one of the three seminar teams for the entire day. Our topics have been critical thinking, servant-leadership, and creative self expression. The students in the program are very intelligent and hardworking, but these are topics...
I only have 5 min. left at this internet cafe so I can only say now that I feel very honored to be a part of this experience. The past couple of days have been eye-opening and rewarding. We are seeing first-hand that many beautiful things and not-so-beutiful things of Uganda, but either way, the people have a strength that many of us can learn from. The kids are wonderful and so bright, i look...
We're Here!!!
Greetings from Uganda!
We landed last night in Entebbe, where we were enthusiasticly greeted by several students and staff members. We then drove to the house in Kampala, met everyone, and had a late dinner. We had an abridged devotional time becuase of how tired we all were, and then went to bed.
This morning we had a more official introduction to the program and heard from four students who...
All aboard!
We are all safe and sound on the plane getting ready to leave JFK for Amsterdam! Very spread out on the plane but at least we are on! Thanx for all the prayers. We are beyond blessed and excited. Talk to you in about 7 hours.
